Our History
Learn about our 100+ years of history that all started in 1920’s at Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia.
1920
1920
Yang Low started as a Day & Night photography studio by the current owner's grandfather. It specialized in portraits and wedding photos and was known as Yang Low Studio.
1950
1950
Yang Low Studio pivoted to become a general merchant and was only officially registered as a company following the establishment of Sarawak and the federation of Malaysia in 1963. It was renamed as Yang Low & Sons but was still famously known in town as Yang Low Studios.
1970
1970
The optical section of Yang Low started in 1970s after the current owner's (YK Yang) father became a Dispensing Optician following training in London in 1973. He was the first to practice contact lenses in the 70's.
1986 - Present
1986 - Present
Yang Low became a full fledged clinical and optical shop after the current owner - YK Yang - the founder's grandson came back from University of Manchester Institute of Technology (now known as University of Manchester) in England after finishing his studies in Optometry and Opthalmic Optics in 1986. He took over the business since then, until present day.
